Bryn Awel Primary School

To Nurture, To Grow, To Succeed

Ready, Respectful, Responsible

Safeguarding

At Bryn Awel Primary School we value all our children, parents, members of the community or visitors to our school. Our Safeguarding Policy is designed to keep our children and school community as safe as possible. We are also an operation Encompass School.

Staff will: -

  • Remember that the priority is to protect the child

  • Treat the matter seriously

  • Listen but do not judge

  • Believe the child

  • Tell the child they have done the right thing in talking to a safe adult

  • Tell the child what will happen where possible

  • Inform the Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher of all concerns immediately

Staff will not: -

  • Contact the parents - this is the job of the Head Teacher/Deputy Head Teacher or Social Services

  • Ask lots of questions if a child has disclosed concerning information

  • Speak to anyone about whom the allegations are made (including colleagues)

  • Promise to keep secrets

Where school staff have concerns for a child, the Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher will usually discuss this with the parent, but in some circumstances, this will not be possible and Social Services may be called instead.

Our Safeguarding Team

Senior Designated Person for Child Protection is our Head Teacher - Mrs. Catherine Davies

Deputy Designated Person for Child Protection is our Deputy Head Teacher - Mrs. Natalie Tancock

Any Safeguarding concerns should be reported to either of these senior leaders.

If you have a concern regarding the senior leaders, please contact our Chair of Governors Mr. Jamie Elliott who has a responsibility for Safeguarding and Child Protection in our school.
